The Neighborhood Impact Investment Fund mourns and condemns the senseless killing of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and far too many others who have died as a result of racially-driven police brutality. We stand in solidarity with residents that are part of Baltimore’s broad-based movement for diversity, equity and an end to systemic racism. These voices remind us that fundamental rights of Black Americans remain at risk, and they underscore the need for action.
The Neighborhood Impact Investment Fund was founded in 2019 with a mission to deliver capital and promote inclusive, equitable growth in Baltimore’s historically disinvested neighborhoods. Today, that mission is more critical than ever in a city that adopted the nation’s first segregated housing ordinance a century ago and where neighborhoods with a majority minority population continue to receive a fraction of the investment made in white neighborhoods. We are dedicated to using our resources to invest in Black American communities in order to increase access to capital, finance revitalization and promote opportunity. The Fund has committed $10 million in financing to date, leveraging millions more for projects and lending initiatives targeting affordable housing, small businesses and community facilities for health, workforce training and education. Through our work and through collaboration with public, private and philanthropic partners and the communities that we seek to serve, we join those pursuing a vision of a better, more equitable life for all Baltimoreans.
